About Your Hosts
A
thirty-four year Alaska resident, Donna Gentry Massay was raised
in New Hampshire. While a youngster, she trained the family pets
- a poodle, a beagle, and a cocker spaniel - as sled dogs and
began racing at age 12. Pursuing her dreams, Donna moved to
Alaska and raced for many years, first in sprint races, and
later the Iditarod.
Donna competed in the Iditarod
Trail Sled Dog Race in 1980 and 1981, finishing 10 and
18th. When Libby Riddles became the first woman to win the race
in 1985, Donna was the Race Marshall.
Glenn Massay is Director Emeritus of Matanuska-Susitna
College, the local campus of the University of Alaska
Anchorage. Raised in western Pennsylvania, Glenn has his Ph.D.
in history, and taught in West Virginia before entering
administration and moving to Alaska in 1974.
